One of the most effective teaching methods is collaborative learning. It allows educators to create learning environments where students who excel and students with learning disabilities can work together to enhance everyone’s education.

Online Learning Is Perfect for Collaboration

Via the online environment, students and teachers are able to expand the possibilities of collaborative learning. Tools such as smart phones, chat environments and social networking are used to bring students from all walks of life together to effectively solve problems. This method works with secondary education and via an online college degree.

Collaborative learning is about critical thinking. Groups work together to solve a common problem. The group is made up of diverse people with different cultural backgrounds and different learning histories. They all bring their gifts to the collaboration and collectively solve an assigned problem.

The Gifted Learn From the Disabled

Most collaborative learning environments are lead by a student who has already been through the teaching method. However, this typically gifted student is still learning. He or she will learn to communicate and work with those with disabilities. They’ll also learn valuable and different ways to approach common problems. To approach learning from a disabled person’s perspective opens new possibilities that might not otherwise be realized.

Although collaborative learning has been proven by teachers and students to be one of the most effective teaching methods, it still takes commitment and coöperation from everyone involved in order to be successful. Via the Internet, the commitment is taken to students across town or to classrooms across the world.
